Distance Education

Distance Education courses are ideal for students who are looking for a convenient way to take courses. A wide variety of online and hybrid courses are available. The course content, course credit, cost per unit and enrollment process is the same as equivalent courses offered on campus. We strongly recommended that you review the DE Web page for information on requirements, procedures, and other program materials. If this is your first time taking an online course, we strongly urge you to take the DE Readiness Assessment on the DE Web page to help determine if you are ready to successfully take college-level courses online.

The following courses are Distance Education (DE) courses. A DE course may be online or hybrid. Online courses meet completely online (via the Internet using Etudes) and require you to complete an online course orientation, email the instructor before class starts or attend an on-campus course orientation. Hybrid courses have regular on-campus class meetings and a mandatory on-campus orientation. Specific class meeting and/or orientation requirement for each DE course are listed below and in the DE Class Schedule and

Meeting Information on the DE website. Do not miss the orientation or registered students may be dropped from the class. If you enroll in a DE course, you must be proficient in computer, online communications and time management. A satisfactory score in Academic Strategies 60 is highly recommended. You must have at a minimum: computer with Internet connection, Windows XP or Mac OSX, Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 9, Adobe Reader 8 and El Camino College Email. Additional software and plug-ins may be required by the instructor (such as Word, Flash). You may also use computer labs on campus to work on DE courses.
