Mission Statement: The El Camino Language Academy (ECLA) is committed to ensure international students success in meeting their educational goals through intensive study of English for Academic purposes. This program facilitates a positive cultural and educational learning experience in the United States while addressing individual needs.
ECLA Policy Statement for Level Placement: El Camino Language Academy students are given an oral, written and reading computer-based exam to determine which level is best for them. Qualified instructors carefully discuss the results. All available information is taken into consideration in placement.
At other language schools you have to go through more than one level and that can be expensive. Spend your money wisely and attend the Language Academy (ECLA) - our spring semester tuition ($2,400) is the best price for 14 weeks of school. Summer Session tuition ($1,200) is the lowest in the South Bay area. Enjoy all the benefits and fun of being on a college campus . . . most ECLA students transfer to El Camino College after one semester or completion of Level 2 or Level 3 at ECLA!
- College Preparation - Level 1: This level is a complete course in conversation, reading, writing and grammar - students achieve a solid academic English base.
- College Preparation - Level 2: In this level students will advance to a higher level of English skills to succeed in their academic pursuits. Level 2 students can pass the 450 TOEFL requirement and transfer to El Camino College.
-
College Preparation - Level 3: This is close to an advanced level course and is aimed at strengthening academic English skills in writing the college essay, reading at the college level, mastering grammar concepts at the college level, and achieving the required TOEFL score for entrance into ECC.
-
All students attending the Language Academy will take the paper-based TOEFL test at the end of each semester and summer session.

El Camino College Placement: When a student meets the requirements for entry into the El Camino College credit program, by either meeting the 450 TOEFL requirement or passing the College Preparation Level 3, qualified ESL instructors will recommend classes that will best serve their needs and support their continued academic success. All international students will meet with a counselor prior to transferring to ECC. The faculty gives careful consideration to the correct placement in the academic program.
If you already have a TOEFL score of 450 / 133 (CBT) / 45-46 on iBT or higher, a TOEIC score of 620 or higher, an IELTS score of 4.5 or higher, or an EIKEN (STEP) score of 2A or higher, you are eligible to apply for an academic program at El Camino College. Please visit the International Student Program website.
