Warriors Drop Match To No. 2 Mt. San Jacinto

The Warriors dropped a big test Wednesday as they fell 7-2 to Mount San Jacinto, the No. 2 team in the state. Attila Lassu managed to win his No. 1 singles match, but the Warriors couldn’t muster any more victories in that portion of the match.

Warriors Lose To Irvine Valley

The match against Orange Coast scheduled for Feb. 7 was postponed due to rain. They will replay that match on Feb. 24 at El Camino College. 

On Feb. 9, the Warriors travelled to Irvine Valley where they lost 6-3. The team fell behind 4-2 after the singles portion and then dropped two of the three matches in the doubles portion. Some highlights for the Warriors included Andrew Sarawasi defeating the Lasers no. 1, Lance Dugan, in three sets while the doubles team of Kevin Nakasone and Andrew Stier scored and 8-5 victory for the team.

Warriors Drop Opening Match To Saddleback

TORRANCE, Calif. – It was a rough start to the 2012 men’s tennis season for the Warriors as they fell 7-2 Tuesday afternoon against visiting Saddleback at the El Camino College tennis courts. 

The Warriors (0-1) dropped the singles portion of the match, 5-1, and then dropped two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Andrew Stier (El Segundo) was the lone singles victor for the hosts, winning in straight sets against Gauchos sophomore Jake Barnard, 7-5, 6-2. 

Despite the Gauchos (1-0) dominating the singles score, there were a few solid matches, highlighted by the match between the teams’ No. 2 players. 

The Gauchos Ales Modry edged the Warriors Attila Lassu in a three set thriller, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. The last two sets were extremely competitive, with neither player able to gain much separation from the other. Lassu had a chance to win the match for the Warriors, up 5-4 in the third set after breaking Modry’s serve. But Modry rallied back in the next game to earn a break point of his own to square the set at five games apiece. Modry eventually took the tiebreaker, 7-4.
