ECC GOLF CLASSIC A BIG HIT

Women's Winners: Team Biedler	Men's Winners: Team Beynon/Field Turf	Mixed Winners: Team S&K Engineers

It was a day of chip shots and sand traps Friday, May 11 at Los Verdes Golf Course in Palos Verdes as 116 players took to the golf links at the 25 Annual Warrior Athletics Golf Classic. There were longest drive contests, closest to pin and team competitions, but most importantly it was an opportunity for members of the El Camino College and surrounding community to bond and hit some golf balls along the way.

Along with the players, there were also many volunteers who made the event a smooth and enjoyable experience. The Warriors Athletics Department would like to thank the following faculty and student athlete volunteers who worked hard to make the golf tournament a fun experience for everyone involved:

Leimomi Elliott, Ruth Ferrer, Julie Meredith, Leisa Biggers, Kelsey Iino, Robin Dreizler, Patty Miller, Stacy Komai, Benny Cedano, Mark Nielsen, Rita Bruce, Luukia Smith, Chad Miller, Marcia Williams, Al Kingsland, Celia Kang, Debbie Turano, Julieta Ortiz, The ECC Men’s Volleyball Team, Women’s Volleyball Team, Women’s Basketball Team, Softball Team, and Men’s Golf Team.

As for the results out on the greens, there were many lucky winners during the day’s festivities. In the closest to the pin competition, Patrick Doucette took home the first place trophy in the men’s division while Patricia Brink took first place on the women’s side.

Jason Campbell flexed his muscle as he won the longest drive competition while ECC Women’s Volleyball head coach Le Valley Pattison schooled the field to take the top spot in the women’s division, just edging out Carolyn Biedler.

Jeff Oliver proved his putter was straight and true as he took down the putting contest.

As for the golf itself, the foursome of Mason Farnsworth, Jeff Dickey, Cal Watson and Jeffrey Dixon representing Beynon/Field Turf were the top finishers in the men’s division with the duo of Dan Evans and Dan Halvorsen coming in second place.

The team of Greg Arnold, Patricia Brink, Kyle Molloy and David L. representing S&K Engineers won the mixed division with the team of Patrick Doucette, Teri Doucette, Carl Doucette and Arch Young representing AJ Cases came in second.

Team Biedler consisting of Le Valley Pattison, Ethel Pattison, Liz Hazell and Carolyn Biedler won the women’s division. Congratulations to all the winners and all of those who participated and we hope to see you all again next year.

Dear Golfer,

Please join us on Friday, May 11th 2012 for the Warrior Athletics Golf Classic. The tournament format is a four-person scramble beginning at 1pm with the awards dinner to follow. We are holding our event at the scenic and popular Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Again, our goal this year is to raise funds to supplement, enrich and support all our athletic programs. The proceeds will be used in areas such as; academic support services, tutoring, equipment, supplies, facility improvements, staff development and other ongoing needs throughout the entire year.

El Camino College hosts twenty-one athletic teams in various men's and women's sports while continuing a strong tradition of excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community. With over sixty years of competition in the Southern California area, Warrior Athletics has collected many conference, division and state championships. Last year saw the Warriors capture the state championship in Women’s Track and Field and conference titles in Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Volleyball. We are proud that our administration, faculty, staff and students impart the ideals of a well-rounded college education and athletic programs.

In an effort to continue to provide our student-athletes continued success in the classroom and in competition, we ask for your continued support. Please join us in making this year’s golf classic a success. So mark your calendars. Thank you and we will see you in May!
