Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) is a mentoring/tutoring program which aims to provide a learning atmosphere which differs from the traditional tutorial environment by focusing on a group atmosphere with “peer to peer” interaction and learning. The program is welcome to all enrolled students in the PASS assisted courses. Participation is voluntary and it utilizes trained facilitators.

PASS Mentor Responsibilities

  • Assist students in class during individual or group activity time when appropriate
  • Plan and facilitate PASS Sessions
  • Promote & advertise PASS Session in the classroom
  • Attend ALL class lectures, take notes, and pay attention to students
  • Attend staff meetings, ongoing training, and de-brief sessions
  • Meet weekly with instructor
  • Demonstrate good learning strategies
  • Maintain a professional attitude on issues such as behavior, confidentiality, & punctuality
 

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Meet with your Mentor weekly basis to discuss specific issues, content, or directed activities
  • Allow time (2-3 minutes) for Mentor to promote PASS in class on a weekly basis
  • Allow PASS Mentor to put the PASS Session agenda on the board in class
  • Allow PASS Mentor to have a copy of your syllabus
  • Include Information about PASS in the course syllabus
  • Help maintain an awareness of PASS in your classroom & your office
