Updating and Upgrading Campus Facilities

About Measure E

Parking StructureEl Camino College Begins Extensive Campus Modernization Program

History was made November 5, 2002 when voters approved El Camino College’s first-ever bond measure. It was truly a community-wide group effort that brought success to the $394 million Measure E, the first bond measure since the college opened for classes in 1947.

The successful bond measure is designed to fund an extensive remodel, including classroom upgrades, instructional equipment updates, and critical health and safety repairs.

Construction has continued throughout the campus since the bond was approved; a nine-member Citizens' Oversight Committee appointed by the Board of Trustees monitors spending and reports all findings to the public.

Improvements include:

  • Fix leaky roofs
  • Remove asbestos
  • Replace heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • Modernize instructional equipment for technology training
  • Wire for Internet access
  • Construct new parking structure
  • Upgrade to energy-efficient systems
  • Add and modernize classrooms for vocational, business, and health care training
  • Remodel/build new academic facilities
  • Build new parking structure
  • Remodel/construction of new academic facilities

It is gratifying to see our community support El Camino College and our mission. We are one of the state's most successful community colleges in preparing students for careers and transfer to four-year institutions. This vote of confidence helps us continue our long-standing tradition of excellence.
