The Honors Transfer Program at El Camino College is designed to better prepare the highly motivated student to transfer successfully to a university and complete a bachelor's degree.
The program provides a unique learning environment which stresses scholastic excellence and develops the academic awareness necessary to achieve this goal. The major objective of the program is to better prepare students for transfer by focusing on enhanced writing, reading and study skills.

Now, HTP students have the opportunity to do a presentation at a UC through the Honors Research Conference. This year's Conference will be held at the University of California Irvine on February 28, 2009.For more information about this Conference, please go to www.honorstcc.org.

Honors Program Admission Requirements
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) from high school or, if already in college, from at least nine graded academic units
- Eligibility for or completion of English 1A or Advanced Placement exam scored of 3 or more
- A completed Honors Transfer Program application and all required materials
Program Completion Requirements
- Have at least 3.0 cumulative GPA at time of completion
- Complete at least two regular (fall or spring) semesters in the HTP
- Complete at least two scheduled 1/2-hour counseling appointments (one must be an education plan; the other may be another ed.plan or verification note from transfer counselor)
- Complete at least four seminars or Alternate Enrichment Activities (see list of venues and instructions on the HTP counter)
- Complete at least five honors courses, each with a minimum grade of C.Complete at least one honors course each regular (fall or spring) semester, with a minimum grade of C (an honors course is not required during summer and winter sessions, but if an honors course is taken, it will count)
- Successfully complete English 1A in the first semester in the program (unless already completed)
Honors courses are academically enriched to intellectually stimulate students, encourage independent, critical thinking and promote close interaction between students and faculty.
Honors courses are chosen to fulfill the requirements of the associate degree as well as to transfer to University of California, California State University and most other universities. Generally, students in the Honors Transfer Program complete the same number of courses as other students planning to transfer.

Alpha Gamma Sigma - The El Camino College Honor Society
Alpha Gamma Sigma, the Honor and Scholarship Society, is the academic honor society and service organization of the California Community College system.It was founded to help promote, maintain and recognize scholastic achievement and community service among students.Because AGS is also a student club and one of the largest organizations on campus, it attracts many students of all majors pursuing academic excellence.El Camino students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher may apply for AGS each semester.Incoming high school students need to have a GPA of 3.5 or over.You may apply for Permanent Membership (Lifetime Member) after completing 60 units (at least 30 from ECC) and holding a 3.25 GAP (with 2 semesters in the club) or a 3.5 GPA (with one semester in the club).All Permanent Members then receive an Honor Society notation on their transcript and an official AGS seal on their diploma, and they will wear the gold stole at the graduation ceremony.More information and applications are available at the front counter of the Student Activities Center.
Dean's List
To qualify for the Dean's List, in any one semester, a student must complete 12 or more units with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.For further information, contact the office of the Vice President, Academic Affairs (310.660.6119).
Graduation
A notation of "Graduation with Honors" and gold tassel on cap is earned with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.For further information, contact the Admissions Office.
